Why does the American form of government work?

"A rage for paper money, for an abolition of debts, for an equal division of property, or for any other improper or wicked project, will be less apt to pervade the whole body of the Union than a particular member of it; in the same proportion as such a malady is more likely to taint a particular county or district, than an entire State." "In the next place, as each representative will be chosen by a greater number of citizens in the large than in the small republic, it will be more difficult for unworthy candidates to practice with success the vicious arts by which elections are too often carried; and the suffrages of the people being more free, will be more likely to centre in men who possess the most attractive merit and the most diffusive and established characters."

Being such a large government encompassing a large portion of North America and it's rich diversity, the American government is less vulnerable to "such a malady [that] is more likely to taint a particular county or district." Diverse opinions from a multitude puts opposing sides into check so that one does not overpower public opinion and thus the Union's destiny. With almost all factions of the American society represented with their own say, malicious deeds that discreetly benefit only themselves will be opposed and undermined by the opposing victim through a sense of patriotism to the creed of America, equality and liberty. Such a large nation as America can benefit from extremely suspicious factions that put each other at balance instead of forcing the people with their vague definition of public good to move America into the correct path. However, in order to make any progress, charismatic leader must be presented. "Men who posses the most attractive merit and the most diffusive and established characters," such as Theodore Roosevelt, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and John F Kennedy uses their charisma and stunning personality to greatly sway public opinion into their favor. In order to persuade the public so generously, great leaders cannot go alone on just merits and personalities, they must possess great actions that benefit all of America to captivate the American audience and other factions as well. A president cannot use horrific acts of force or lies to win every heart of the American people, but what they need is a real plan that is truthful to all factions and the public opinion to escape the scrupulous interrogation and pressure from opposing factions. As a side note, foreign powers can also reign in extremist leaders such as Hitler who captivated Germany, but horrifically astonished the world and their dreams and hopes. This forced morals on forward-thinking presidents as well as the balance between factions all help to keep America's government in working condition.

"Ambition must be made to counteract ambition. The interest of the man must be connected with the constitutional rights of the place. It may be a reflection on human nature, that such devices should be necessary to control the abuses of government. But what is government itself, but the greatest of all reflections on human nature? ... you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself. A dependence on the people is, no doubt, the primary control on the government; but experience has taught mankind the necessity of auxiliary precautions." "the one by creating a will in the community independent of the majority -- that is, of the society itself"

Because humans can be very finicky, each individual as well as each division of the government under an instinctual drive keep each other in check through ambition to curb opposing power and gain momentous authority. However, it all goes to the people to elect those that can carry out this instinctual drive for power and also the people and the public opinion to oust and accept the many shifts of power within the American government. Just like people, the 3 division and sub-divisions have opinions and goals as well that helps others realize the truth behind all of the struggle or even cooperation, malicious or not. The people itself becomes the community independent of the majority as each individual has a right to say the truths or lies behind this endless struggle, especially with the accessible media and internet. But the true independent will behind the balance and check government is morals and especially our guilty consciousness. Being very finicky, humans derive a lot of their motivation and beliefs from their own emotions, whether it is revenge, modesty, or any other characteristic. However, everyone has a consciousness that is more or less in control, even those that can surpass their guilt has the guilt of other "weaker" members of their division to burden their shoulders with their own sorrows and pain. Society, being a structure dependent on cooperation and dependence on another or each other, we are all taught the yes's and no's of society and actions that become a consciousness familiar to everyone inside the society. This consciousness can be conceived as a way to survive in a community by teaching cooperation and social interactions, a yes for every human's instinct and drive to better themselves. While personal interests of each individual or government division/branch are conflicting with each other thus keeping power in check, there is an independent will that drives a nation forward called a consciousness, guilty or not, that is unique to a society and well-known to its members whether they know and follow it, refuse it, or is oblivious to it's influence.
